Support a New Hospital for Richmond

The BC NDP spent the provincial election promising Richmond that construction would begin on a new hospital this year. It’s time for them to admit they were never going to do this.

Richmond Hospital’s acute care tower is in dire need of replacement - there are cracks in the building’s facade, and it simply wouldn’t survive an earthquake. The community needs the expanded medical care that a new tower would offer.

During an all-candidates’ debate hosted by the Richmond News, now-BC NDP MLA Kelly Greene said the tower is “full steam ahead, shovels in the ground by 2021.”

Now, we’ve learned that’s not true - and Richmond’s BC NDP MLAs are in retreat.

The latest update from Infrastructure BC has construction starting in 2024 - THREE YEARS after Kelly Greene said it would. Not a word from any NDP MLAs in Richmond.

The Richmond Hospital Foundation announced that the community raised $50 million to build a new acute care tower.

There wasn’t a word of congratulations from the NDP MLAs in Richmond.

What are Richmond voters supposed to make of this? Should they add three years to every promise the BC NDP makes?

Richmond deserves better.

Will you join me in calling on the BC NDP to come clean about their plans for Richmond Hospital right now?

Will you add your signature?
